‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Series Finale Review
--
FULL SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE OBI-WAN KENOBI FINALE
Wow. What a way to wrap up the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. This show was far from perfect, but it did nail a lot of big moments — especially in the finale.
We start with where we left off — Obi-Wan and company are on the run and their hyperdrive is broken. Kenobi comes up with the idea to draw the Empire off because he knows Vader will want to follow him. There we have a sweet moment with Obi-Wan and Leia as he says goodbye.
Meanwhile, Reva is on Tatooine, trying to find 10-year-old Luke Skywalker and kill him the way Luke’s father killed her friends.
Vader follows Kenobi down to some planet and we get a brilliant face-off. This is truly Obi-Wan Kenobi coming back to his Jedi ways — and it is beautiful to see. He has callback lines from the prequels and does some of his classic moves and lightsaber twirling that fans will easily recall.
This lightsaber battle was right out of the prequels. It was able to be as fast and they could allow for someone like Vader — but it is everything a fan could have asked for a rematch. They both showcased incredible force abilities, as well. Vader completely breaks the ground with the force and buries Obi-Wan in the ground with boulders. Obi-Wan has a moment of reflection where we hear Anakin’s voice from the prequels along with Vader’s words in this show and he can overcome and lift all of the boulders at once to get out of there and continue to fight Vader.
Then comes the absolute best and most touching part. Kenobi defeats Vader and slashes half of his mask off — revealing a burnt-up Anakin underneath (basically copying Star Wars: Rebels when Ahsoka did it, but it’s perfectly okay). It’s at this moment that Kenobi realizes that it’s his friend underneath this big scary suit. Obi-Wan whispers “Anakin” as the face of rage is shown.
