Disney Is Getting Darth Vader Right
--
Say what you will about Star Wars under the helm of Disney, but something they are getting right is Darth Vader. We are seeing that happen on a week to week basis with their new show on Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Vader first came back onto our screens for Disney in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This film took place just before the events of A New Hope. It’s about how the Rebels stole the Death Star plans that eventually lead to Luke Skywalker blowing it up.
Darth Vader didn’t have a lot of screen time in the movie — but he took over every scene he was in. He was relentless and impatient. There was no sign of good in him — the perfect villain. He treats high-ranking officials in the Empire poorly and uses fear to boss them around.
Then when all those officers and stormtroopers allow the Rebels to steal the Death Star plans, Vader takes things into his own hands, which produces one of the greatest Star Wars scenes of all time. Vader shows up in the hallway trying to chase down the Death Star plans and he ruthlessly chops through every single Rebel soldier using amazing force power and great lightsaber work.
I remember smiling like a child when I saw it in theaters because of how epic that scene was.
The next project that Disney had for Darth Vader was Star Wars: Rebels. It was an animated show that aired on Disney XD. While this show was geared more towards kids, it still had some fantastic storylines (some of which they will be using on the Ahsoka TV show) and great action.
There, Vader would fight Kanan and Ezra, who was a Jedi and his new Padawan. Vader made it look like a walk in the park. One of the better scenes in the show was his big fight with Ahsoka. The audience gets a tease of Anakin when Ahsoka strikes part of Vader’s mask off…
